History
The MIT team was developed after attaining the course on blackjack strategy in 1970. This course was held in Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the title of this course was, "How to gamble if you must". The main instructions given at that course were about card counting, which possess the central role in the strategies of this game.
Role of Dr. Edward O. Thorp in Making Strategies:
Dr. Thorp has developed the most primitive and accurate strategy for card counting in the blackjack and by virtue of this formula, a lot of gains are obtained by the players. By the help of this formula, the players become able to record or to guess about the remaining cards present in the deck and in addition, they would become able to guess when the game or its odds will go in the favour of a player. Dr. Edward has written a book on these strategies in 1962 with the name of, "Beat the Dealer".
MIT team started work after School Club
This team has started its work as after-school club. In this club, the students use to come together and they try to attain fun by playing different types of card games. With the passage of time, they strategies of these students have given birth the casino models where different teams can fight together in order to beat each other.
The card counting as a single strategy is not a complete guarantee to win the game. Nowadays, almost every casino knows this technique and they are capable to avoid it.
Bill Kaplan
The MIT team has broken up in the Atlantic City, after getting at different occasions successes and failures. There were several members who have left the group after becoming disheartened. In 1980, the team has taken a turning point, when Bill Kaplan has joined the team in partnership. Bill Kaplan had been famous due to running a successful blackjack team in Las Vegas.
Kaplan has made tremendous efforts in bringing out MIT team from the darkness of unsuccessfulness. The first game played by Kaplan was not outstanding, however; with the passage of time the team members started to become impressed with his strategies and potential. Kaplan has trained the team members on card counting and different other strategies.
In 1980, this team has again started to play in the casinos with Kaplan along with his backup fund of around $90K. Since then the team has taken a marvelous turn and started to win the games continuously. After sometimes, the casinos knew their strategies and hence they were caught with them. MIT started to look at the team of Kaplan, but the Kaplan at that moment, left the team and given the leadership to J.P. Massar.
